Will the Netflix series “Cowboy Bebop” get a 2nd season? Netzwelt tells you everything about the continuation of the anime adaptation.
“Cowboy Bepop” has started on Netflix, the much-anticipated adaptation of one of the best animes of all time. The end of the premiere edition leaves some big questions unanswered and a number of cliffhangers emerge. We’ll tell you how it could go on in season 2, if it is confirmed by Netflix.
Attention: From here on spoilers for the plot and the finale of the 1st season of “Cowboy Bebop” follow!
The end of the first season of “Cowboy Bepop” throws the arsenal of figures into a mess: The Bepop crew (initially) goes their separate ways. Jet Black (Mustafa Shakir) in particular threatens his now former partner Spike Spiegel (John Cho) to kill him if they ever meet again.
Spike’s great love Julia (Elena Satine), on the other hand, swings herself up to be the new boss of the criminal syndicate. And at the very end of season 1, hacker Ed (Eden Perkins) surprisingly appears.

When does the 2nd season of “Cowboy Bepop” start?
The streaming service Netflix has not yet officially confirmed the 2nd season of “Cowboy Bepop”. But that’s not unusual either, because Netflix normally waits the first 4 weeks after a new series comes out and then makes a decision about whether to extend it.
Should the “Cowboy Bepop”, the live-action series, prove to be a great success on Netflix (and rank well in the Netflix Top 10), then nothing should stand in the way of ordering new episodes. As soon as there is something to report here, you will of course find out about it on Netzwelt.
If “Cowboy Bepop” is renewed, the new episodes should land on the streaming service within about a year. The relatively long production time of season 1 was due to both the corona pandemic and an injury to leading actor John Cho. Neither of these will likely be repeated.
Trailer and pictures for the 2nd season of “Cowboy Bepop”
At the moment, neither a trailer nor the first pictures of the second season of “Cowboy Bepop” have been released. As soon as there is news and publications here, we will of course inform you about them.
What will “Cowboy Bepop” Season 2 be about?
The finale of the premiere edition leaves some big questions unanswered about the future of the Netflix series “Cowboy Bepop”. So the Bepop crew split up. Faye Valentine (Daniella Pineda) and Jet Black could quickly find their way back together.
After all, Faye is merely researching her own past. Because the con artist was in a cryo-sleep for 54 years – and cannot remember the previous time. She suffers from “complete amnesia”.
Things look a lot more complicated between the main character Spike Spiegel and his now former partner Jet. In the season 1 finale, Jet explains to Spike, “Death follows you wherever you go.”
Jet thought Spike had a military history. But in truth it was under the name Fearless a killer for the syndicate. Jet doesn’t like that at all. In addition, villain Vicious (Alex Hassell) kidnapped Jet’s daughter Kimmie (Molly Moriarty) in the finale. That also has to do with Spike’s past in the Syndicate – and of course it put Jet very much upset.
The ultimate Netflix quiz
What was the first Netflix in-house production?
But one thing is (almost completely) certain: sooner or later the Bepop crew will probably get together again in season 2 to hunt down criminals all over the solar system and collect their bounty.
What will happen to Julia and Vicious?
In the finale of season 1, which we have explained in detail elsewhere, Julia shoots Syndicate boss Vicious and her former love Spike. Julia imprisoned Vicious and seizes power in the criminal organization himself.
That leaves a few questions unanswered for Season 2 of Cowboy Bepop: Vicious is very dangerous. Will the villain manage to break free? Will he then take revenge on Julia?
And will Julia still be able to forgive Spike after all? In season 1, she learns that Spike is still alive. But she accuses him of not rushing to her rescue and rescuing her from Vicious’ clutches. Julia may become more docile over time – for example, if she happens to meet Spike again.
Or else, she pursues him with all the power of the Syndicate. That also seems possible here. And even if Julia forgives Spike, can he forgive her? Eventually she shot him with the clear intention of killing him.
A new villain is announced + Ed appears
Fan favorite Ed appears at the very end of Season 1 of “Cowboy Bepop”. In season 2, Spike and Ed will hunt the “Butterfly Man”. He is the villain of the 2001 anime film “Cowboy Bebop – The Film”. In addition to the butterfly man, there are a few other villains from the anime series who have not yet appeared in the Netflix adaptation – for example the child Man Wen.
About half of the 26-episode anime series has already been adapted for season 1 of “Cowboy Bepop”. So there are still enough storylines, villains, and adventures for more seasons on Netflix.
Production and casting of “Cowboy Bepop” Season 2
There is currently no official information on this either. It can be assumed, however, that all the leading actors * will return for the second season of “Cowboy Bepop”.
John Cho will of course be part of the party as the main character Spike Spiegel. Mustafa Shakir as Jet Black, Daniella Pineda as Faye Valentine, Eden Perkins as Ed, Tamara Tunie as Ana, Mason Alexander Park as Gren, Elena Satine as Julia and Alex Hassell as Vicious will also return.
For new characters such as the Butterfly Man or Wen, the actors have yet to be found. As soon as there is something to report here and there are casting reports for the 2nd season of “Cowboy Bepop”, you will of course find out from us.
