It was THE excitement of yesterday evening: The potential blockbuster Cyberpunk 2077 is delayed by a whopping five months and will no longer appear in April, but only in September 2020. This also has an impact on the planned multiplayer mode.

Fans of CD Projekt RED must currently be strong, because Cyberpunk 2077 will only be released on September 17, 2020 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One after yesterday's postponement. At some point after the release of the main game, a multiplayer mode is supposed to follow, but the release postponement also has noticeable consequences for this.
As the developers in the person of Michal Nowakowski, Senior Vice President of Business Development at CD Projekt RED, confirm, the multiplayer for the sci-fi RPG will now be a long time coming. "Given the expected release of Cyberpunk 2077 in September and the events that we expect after the new date, a release date in 2021 seems rather unlikely for the Cyberpunk multiplayer," said Nowakowski.
In short: Before 2022 we will probably not be allowed to lend a hand to Cyberpunk 2077's multiplayer, which means we will have to wait at least two more years.
The multiplayer component of the game was first mentioned in 2013, but then disappeared for a long time. In the meantime it was even unclear whether this should be implemented at all. In September 2019, however, confirmation followed that CD Projekt RED would very well implement it and that the multiplayer part was also actively being developed. In the same conversation with investors, Nowakowski now also confirmed that this multiplayer component was meant when the studio once spoke of another AAA title besides Cyberpunk 2077, which is said to be in the works.
Cyberpunk 2077 will be released on September 17th, 2020 for PC, PS4, Xbox One and also Google Stadia.
