Launched as an initial flop, Cyberpunk 2077 has long since caught on and is convincing. This also applies to the large add-on Phantom Liberty, which continues to be successful.
With the release of the major expansion Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, CD Projekt RED’s sci-fi epic got a second wind and once again attracted players in droves. This is quite remarkable, since the sci-fi adventure from the Witcher makers was initially very problematic and was already decried as a flop. But: The developers continued to work on the title and got it under control.
This is now also reflected in the continued success of the Phantom Liberty expansion, which continues to attract new players and buyers. At the end of November last year, CD Projekt RED was able to announce more than 4.3 million sales of the add-on – and a lot has been added since then.
In a tweet, the Witcher development studio now confirms that more than 5 million copies of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty have now been sold; A corresponding number of agents have now infiltrated Dogtown. In this context, they thanked the community for their continued support and at the same time wished them much success in their mission in the game.
The main game Cyberpunk 2077 itself broke the 25 million copy mark in October last year – this mark was reached in a little less than three years since the original release. To underline that this is quite impressive: Cyberpunk 2077 reached the 25 million mark faster than the highly praised and immensely successful RPG epic The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Phantom Liberty was released on September 26, 2023 and sold around three million copies in the first week after release alone. These sales figures have continued to grow since then.
