Set to form part of the first wave of films and shows in the rebooted DCU, Max’s Green Lantern TV series is still going ahead, and now DC Studios Creative Head James Gunn has confirmed that it will be an all-star team of writers cracking the story and the pilot.
Amid reports that writers like Tom King and Damon Lindelof have joined the writers’ room, Gunn confirmed the news and previous rumors on Instagram (via Deadline ): “Yes, it’s true. The Green Lantern DCU series is assembling a crack team of writers, building on the fantastic pilot script and bible written by Chris Mundy, Tom King, and Damon Lindelof,” the original post reads.

Chris Mundy is best known for his work on Ozark and True Detective: Night Kingdom. Meanwhile, Tom King is one of the biggest names in DC Comics in recent years, with his work on Batman and Supergirl: Girl of Tomorrow being highlights; he was also part of the earliest universe-building phase of the DCU. As for Lindelof, he is known for being one of the brains behind Lost and directing other major series like HBO’s Watchmen and The Leftovers.
Perhaps the latter is the biggest surprise from this writing team, mainly due to his recent involvement in the Rey Skywalker-centric Star Wars films. should What’s happening in the near future doesn’t end with the iterations of the script Lucasfilm is happy to move forward with. One would expect that he would focus on something closer to his recent original TV series, Mrs. Davis, rather than jumping straight back into the arms of a massive franchise, but perhaps he’s determined to get another such project off the ground.
At the moment, it seems that the DCU is in capable hands, with creative teams in both film and television that have been convincing so far and that bring together talents from different forms of media. First, we should see James Gunn’s animated Monster Squad series and his big-screen Superman reboot (which already introduces Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner), followed by Peacemaker Season 2 (now somehow tied to the new continuity) and Supergirl, which recently recruited Cruella and I, Tonya director Craig Gillespie.
What remains to be seen is whether the end result will be convincing enough for casual fans and streaming subscribers to care about DC’s treasure trove of iconic characters and stories, as recent comic book adaptations without distinct personalities have lost some steam.
