death strandingwhich is basically a half-movie game, is officially getting a movie adaptation.
He’s finally done it, folks: Hideo Kojima is bringing his work to the big screen. Well, he didn’t do it himself, but for the guy who said “70% of my body is made of movies,” that might be a bit of a big deal. This comes from an exclusive report from Deadline, which reports that Hammerstone Studios will be in charge of the project. Hammerstone is fully financing the film, with Hideo Kojima and studio founder Alex Lebovici serving as producers, and Kojima Productions and Allan Ungar serving as executive producers.
It doesn’t say if it’s a direct adaptation of the game, but it will apparently introduce new elements and characters in the world of Death Stranding. So far, there is no writer or director, nor any actors. In case you didn’t know, Death Stranding actually has a number of famous actors, such as Norman Reedus, who played Sam in the game, and was previously known for playing Darryl Dixon in The Walking Dead, and Leah Seydoux, who starred in several James Bond films in The Walking Dead. So it’s no surprise to see them reprise their roles for the live-action adaptation.
Kojima himself issued a statement saying: “I couldn’t be more excited about my new collaboration with Hammerstone Studios. This is a pivotal time for the franchise and I’m really looking forward to working with them to bring Death Stranding to the big screen.”
This follows on from the recent release of Death Stranding 2, currently a working title, as a follow-up to 2019’s pseudo-walking simulator. Not much is known about the sequel either, although both Reedus and Seydoux are back in their respective roles, with Elle Fanning and Shiori Kuzinner also set to join the cast, whose roles have yet to be confirmed.
