Actor Sean Bean is famous for his numerous death scenes. But another “Lord of the Rings” actor died significantly more often on the big screen.
Sean Bean doesn’t die in every film he’s in, but he does do so quite often. Bean has now died over 20 times in films and series, and his villainous roles in particular rarely see the end credits.
Because of the numerous death scenes, Bean is often held up as the record holder in this very specific category. However, that’s far from true, because one of Bean’s “Lord of the Rings” colleagues died a total of 70 times in front of the camera!
He died for the last time in 2015
In his 93 years, Christopher Lee worked as an actor for 67 years – a lot of time for a lot of films. In fact, not only does Lee hold the record for the most death scenes, he also landed in the Guinness Book of Records in 2007 as the actor with the most appearances with 244 film roles.
Just like with Sean Bean, Lee’s penchant for villain roles meant that he died a noticeable number of times, although there are of course particularly spectacular scenes such as his fall in the extended version of “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” or his beheading in “Star Wars – Episode III: Revenge of the Sith” is remembered.
Even 9 years after Lee’s death, it’s unlikely that another actor will come close to matching Lee’s on-screen death record in the near future. Of course Sean Bean can still try!
