Twelve years after its predecessor, Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be released with a bang on March 22, 2024: The release of Capcom’s new role-playing game will be accompanied by loud criticism and bad Steam reviews. The microtransactions and lack of convenience features in the game are to blame for this.
Although the developers have already improved some of the faux pas with patches, the role-playing game on Steam still cannot recover from its poor launch ratings and currently (as of April 7, 2024) only has 59 percent positive reviews and is therefore “balanced”.
But we’re not interested in Steam ratings and other reviews because we wanted to know from our GameStar community what you think of Dragon’s Dogma 2. Although there was also a lot of criticism in the comments on GameStar.de, the survey shows: The majority of you have fun with the role-playing game.
The results of the survey
A total of 57 percent of you play Dragon’s Dogma 2 and at least have a lot of fun with it, 35 percent are even absolutely thrilled. 7 percent are somewhat disappointed with the role-playing game and would have expected more – and 2 percent even refunded Dragon’s Dogma 2 after playing it.
29 percent say they did not buy Dragon’s Dogma 2. Whether this has to do with the negative reviews of the release or whether there is a general lack of interest cannot be determined from the numbers. But that’s why we like to take another look at the comments!
»The best game since Elden Ring«
You are also enthusiastic in the comments. Plus user ondo writes something like:
From a gameplay perspective, for me it is the best game since Elden Ring. I was thrilled to the end and wanted to start another run straight away […] I understand the shitstorm, but I actually recommend playing the game because you don’t have to spend a euro to play the game after purchasing it. For me a big 10/10.
User Lazzlo is also very impressed with Dragon’s Dogma 2, but sees a lot of room for improvement:
The game just captivated me. Similar to DD1 when I played through it for the first time […] Nevertheless, as I said, there is still a lot of room for improvement. The technology. Especially in the capital it’s really not good, I’m glad I haven’t had to fight there yet. No transmog system or a higher level of difficulty wouldn’t be bad either and if you can look towards the add-on: more variety of opponents and more classes.
“A big disappointment”
But you don’t only have praise for the role-playing game. There is also a lot of criticism of Dragon’s Dogma 2 in the comments. For example, user batou7 even canceled the game:
A huge disappointment and stopped playing it. I was really looking forward to the game. […] Conclusion: boring game, you first have to laboriously search for the new classes. There are one or two different weapons, but they hardly differ at all. My flop of the decade after Battlefield 2042. Pretty annoying since I was so looking forward to it.
You won’t be spared from technical problems either. User Haehnchen81 criticizes the weak performance on his powerful computer:
I have a powerful computer and there isn’t a game right now that doesn’t run at a minimum of 60 FPS on 4k. But this was a disaster. The demands of many customers seem to be extremely low if they want to play at 30 FPS or lower. When it comes to optics, it’s just a disgrace. Therefore refunded immediately.
Some of you are already in the starting blocks, but are still waiting for one or two patches. User Coolstyle is at least impressed with his first impression:
Patient gamer here, not bought. I’ll definitely wait until patches come out and then get it in a sale. Instead, I watched a few streams and the gameplay looks great, like a mixture of Elden Ring and Monster Hunter, and I also get bonus points if there’s a class that fights exclusively with a two-handed sword.
