Amid a seemingly never-ending wave of layoffs and studio closures, it’s refreshing to see some of the talent that escaped triple-A gaming hell surviving and thriving. Wolfeye Studios, the team behind the clever immersive sim Weird West, has already started working on their next project.
Although it doesn’t have a name yet, Wolfeye announced today that production has officially begun. The better news? This feels more like a return to the team’s roots!

For those unfamiliar with Wolfeye’s storied pedigree, the studio is led by Arkane co-founder and co-creator of Dishonored and the Prey reboot, Raphael Colantonio. Wolfeye is comprised primarily of veterans from Arkane’s Austin and Lyon studios, which is especially relevant today following the recent closure of the former.
Wolfeye’s first game was the acclaimed isometric action-RPG Weird West, which was essentially an immersive sim from a new perspective. But now, the developer looks set to create a successor to Dishonored and Prey with its next project, as its upcoming game is a first-person RPG.
At this point, we only have the vaguest hints about the game. We know it will be the studio’s first first-person game, and we understand the genre. Aside from a few pieces of art (see below), we don’t really know what to expect.
The game’s retro sci-fi aesthetic is also very apparent. In fact, Wolfeye teased the game at GDC earlier this year with an image of a whiteboard that simply said “retro sci-fi” and “first-person.” The game has been in pre-production ever since then.
Interestingly, the developers revealed that they want to involve the community very early in the game’s production. The game will undergo a limited alpha test sometime in 2025 to get some initial feedback. This will be a private test, but you can sign up on the official website to get a chance to be included.
Wolfeye says this next game, also a new IP, will “deliver a rich and detailed world, free play, and a deep RPG experience” – exactly what one would expect from this talented team.
“Fans of past games I worked on like Dishonored and Prey will feel right at home, as will fans of role-playing games,” said Creative Director Raphael Colantonio.
“While we’re searching for the right publishing partner, our goal is to involve the community in the development of the game, with a limited private alpha test in 2025. We can’t wait for fans to see what we’re working on.”
