As part of Ubisoft’s recent investor call, CEO Yves Guillemot did confirm that the company will be at E3, but doesn’t seem entirely convinced that the event will take place.
Last year, the ESA and E3 ReedPop’s new owners confirmed that E3 would return as a live show in 2023, and considering the event was canceled in 2022, everyone said “yes, of course.” Technically, it’s still expected to happen, but when asked during the company’s Q3 2022-23 investor call if Ubisoft will be at the event, Guillemot said at least he wasn’t entirely sure, IGN reported. Whether the event will happen or not.
“If E3 happens, we’ll be there, and we’ll have a lot to show,” the CEO said, which could just be an awkward way of phrasing it, or perhaps a sign of a lack of confidence in the event.
ReedPop President Lance Fensterman provided a statement to IGN reiterating that E3 is still planned to take place, saying, “E3 is moving full steam ahead and we’re delighted with the community’s progress and engagement. Now that we’ve confirmed our exhibitors, we’re eager to share details as we move forward.” Determining and participants getting their own detailed plans ready, and more.In the rest of the ReedPop game portfolio, we rarely release participants until the event gets closer, but for now we’ll be tweaking our style as much as possible to fit the way E3 .”
IGN also reported last month that the big three of Xbox, Nintendo, and Sony won’t actually be present at E3 2023, marking the first time the big three will be absent. PlayStation hasn’t been at the event since 2019, so it’s not surprising, and considering recent rumors that Nintendo didn’t show much due to the Switch being at the end of its life cycle, it’s also not shocking that it didn’t show up.
Guess we’ll have to wait and see! At least we can guarantee that Geoff Keighley will post a well-timed tweet for the Summer Games Festival when news about E3 breaks out.
