Bungie continues to rely on the sci-fi series Destiny and has now officially announced a new game within the brand, Destiny: Rising.
Destiny is going into the next round, as Bungie officially announced the latest installment in the franchise this evening: Destiny: Rising. However, this is not a full-fledged sequel on PC and consoles, but rather a free-to-play spin-off for mobile devices.
The new mobile title is also a sci-fi RPG shooter, but is said to offer a “completely new adventure set in an alternative Destiny timeline”. Bungie announced this together with developer and publisher NetEase at the time of the announcement. Thematically, the game is set after the Dark Ages era.
In contrast to Destiny 2, Destiny: Rising relies on playable heroes, also known as Lightbearers. There will be a diverse roster of characters, each with unique abilities and backstories.
Otherwise, NetEase promises a shared world for the mobile title in which players can take part in single-player, co-op and competitive multiplayer activities. For example, there are also strikes for six players as well as PvE and PvP modes inspired by previous Destiny games. These are also supplemented by new modes and new ways to play. As for perspective, both first-person and third-person modes are supported. You play either via touchscreen or using dedicated controllers.
Bungie itself is not involved in the development, but monitors it and provides the Destiny license. There is currently no release date, but a closed alpha test will be conducted in November and made available to selected players.
