If you think you have read another similar headline in iGamesNews, you are not wrong. At the beginning of April 2023 you were able to read a publication that talked about the secret life of animals in Red Dead Redemption 2. It was a very special publication both for many of you and for me, since I am an inveterate lover of walks, zoology and, although it sounds contradictory, hunting and fishing within the game.
I have spent hundreds of hours observing the behavior of the world in Red Dead Redemption 2 and I have been wanting to tell you for a long time what the secret life of humans is like… although I can only show you the tip of the iceberg in this publication. As Morpheus told Neo in The Matrix: “I can only show you the door. You are the one who must go through it.”
It’s no secret that Rockstar Games has a dedication to detail that borders on the sick. We have seen it over a decade in GTA V and Online (to a lesser extent) and in its masterpiece to date, Red Dead Redemption 2. We don’t know if they will raise the bar with GTA VI, but I can already tell you that it has it. really complicated.
If the study of animals and plants in Red Dead Redemption 2 It’s worth studying, hold on to your chair because humans are another level. It is enough to go to any city or town on the map, stop and observe for hours and realize that the world lives without the need for us to interact. Damn! We don’t even have to take out the gun for the NPCs to kill each other over any dispute. I leave that activity to you.
Camp Life by Dutch Van Der Linde
For this post, I prefer to focus attention on a group of NPCs that we have all seen and are forced to live with: Dutch Van Der Linde’s gang. Did you know that all members have routines? Well yes, and they can also modify them depending on the random events that may occur: from our intervention to the attack of wild animals or other enemies.
The channel Red Dead Detailsunfortunately inactive for a year, left us several videos about the secret life of humans in Red Dead Redemption 2. She made four very interesting documentaries about the daily lives of Simon Pearson, Susan Grimshaw and Uncle. They cover very different activities: cooking, cleaning and drinking alcohol with a madman respectively.
I studied Camp Cook Pearson in Red Dead Redemption 2 and discovered an incredibly detailed daily routine.
Pearson’s video is a true delight, because it shows us that NPCs have a life beyond their daily tasks. The camp cook spends time clearing his head in the mornings, rolling and smoking tobacco, preparing meat and vegetables (with the help of Abigail Marston), stoking the fire, urinating several times, eating, and even taking time at the end of the day to watch the sunset from the pier.
The level of detail is so absurd that we can see Pearson and Abigail cutting each piece of meat and vegetables into fillets and pieces respectively, which they put into the pot where the stews and the rest of the food are cooked. And if we continue observing, we see how all the members of the camp eat their share in different places. None of this requires our intervention.
I’ve researched how Miss Grimshaw clears the camp at Clemens Point in Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption 2.
If you thought that Pearson was not going to leave room for surprise, you were very wrong. Although Susan Grimshaw’s routine includes similar activities such as taking breaks, smoking, looking at the horizon and her daily tasks (cleaning and sewing), it includes new ones such as chatting with other members and checking that they are okay, reading, giving speeches to raise the morals and even flirts with Micah.
I studied Uncle in Red Dead Redemption 2 and found out exactly how much low back pain affects his daily life. This is how he spends the day at camp […]: From waking up late in the morning to passing out from excessive drinking at night.
The videos of Pearson and Grimshaw show us two busy people, while Uncle has a more… calm attitude: he is a lazy man who lives making excuses and drunk. Well even his routine is interesting to watch! Although he spends most of his time with a bottle in his hand, we can also see him playing the Banjo, grooming himself, smoking, watching the horizon and staggering around the camp due to drunkenness until he falls asleep in any corner.
Beyond the Dutch Van Der Linde Camp
If the article ended here, I think I would have fulfilled my purpose. However, I want to break the boundaries of the camp and show you what the life of a random farmer and goat herder is like… a very hostile one, according to Red Dead Details. If you thought there was life and variety in the camp, watch the following video, but hold on to the chair because you may fall.
His routine is absurdly detailed and realistic: from drinking water, urinating and eating, taking care of the farm and walking the goats, to walking around on patrol with his lever-action rifle in his hands. And yes, he ends the day by coming home and lying in his bed. Once again, all this without the need for our interaction as players.
Now that you have seen the routines of these four characters, extrapolate it to the rest of the NPCs that populate the world of Red Dead Redemption 2 and take into account all the possible alterations that may occur due to the different routines of each one… and our presence. You will never look at the inhabitants of your cities, towns and farms the same way again. They have lives.
