A major line of games from earlier days could possibly be making a comeback: a new Deus Ex is said to be in the early stages of development, according to a new report.
Well-known insider and games journalist Jason Schreier from Bloomberg makes a name for itself again: According to his information, Deus Ex is supposed to be making a comeback! A new part of the long-standing franchise is said to be in a “very, very early” development phase at the Eidos Montreal developer studio. This is one of the new in-house studios that Embracer Group acquired earlier this year.
No other concrete details about this new Deus Ex project have been made public, although it is said that some new team members will be transferred to Eidos Montreal to expand the development team there. In the future, there should be a general focus on larger franchises and AAA titles.
Jason Schreier went one step further and also said that a completely new IP would be created there. On the other hand, the project with some kids on wheels, which was somewhat based on “Stranger Things”, is said to have been put on hold.
Deus Ex made its debut in 2000 and has garnered quite a sizable following ever since. Eidos Montreal had previously developed Deus Ex: Mankind Divided as well as 2011’s Deus Ex: Human Revolution, so it has experience with the brand. The first two series offshoots were still developed by Ion Stom.
Earlier this year, Embracer Group acquired three western studios from Square Enix: Square Enix Montreal, Eidos Montreal and Crystal Dynamics. Coupled with a few gaming brands – including Deus Ex – it cost $300 million.
