Eventually, an official multiplayer game is actually coming in the Witcher universe. The emphasis is on sometime
because we will probably have to wait a long time for Project Sirius from the development studio The Molasses Flood.
Again at the beginning
As CD Projekt Red now confirms, the development of the planned title will indeed be reset. That goes from the latest investor conference emerges, in which CEO Adam Kicinski provides additional context on the decision:
I know it’s not great to hear from a company that one of their projects is being re-evaluated. But at the same time we have to experiment and show enough courage to break new ground if we want to stay innovative. We have to get on the right course and not lose control – especially when it comes to a project from one of our new studios in the family, which direction is also new to us. It’s better that we cut our costs early and start over than continue like this.
No surprise: The fact that development at Project Sirius will be restarted was already in the offing: We reported that The Molasses Flood has to go back to the drawing board with regard to the spin-off and that cost reasons are probably the decisive factor.
What we know about Project Sirius so far
What is Project Sirius anyway? Project Sirius is supposed to be a multiplayer game set in the Witcher universe, which is not being developed by CD Projekt Red itself, but by The Molasses Flood (The Flame in the Flood, Drake Hollow). A total of six new Witcher games are currently in the works or in planning.
There are currently no concrete details about Project Sirius. All we know is that the game is intended to appeal not just to RPG fans, but to a broader audience. It can currently be speculated that Sirius is a species Witcher-Division
with co-op, PvE, class system, procedural elements and comic-like graphics.
In addition to Project Sirius, a new witcher trilogya Remake of the very first Witcher RPG and an all-new brand from CD Projekt Red. Meanwhile, the studio is also working on the big one Cyberpunk 2077 expansion Phantom Liberty and a full-fledged sequel.
