It’s easy to get excited about Diablo 4 right now. Following Season 4’s loot and item overhaul and the new end-game activities and quality of life improvements that Season 5 brought, the game is in its best shape right now.
Soon, we’re expecting another big change, Season 6, which will kick off with the release of the game’s first expansion, Ships of Hatred. So it makes sense that Blizzard wants new players to join the game now, and the developer timed this particular free weekend especially well.

Diablo IV is currently free to play on Steam, from now until Tuesday, August 27. The free trial also runs concurrently with a massive 40% discount on the standard edition. Aside from all the gameplay, system, and mechanic changes Diablo IV has received over the past few months, the timing of this trial is particularly good for another reason.
The demo runs concurrently with the Mother’s Blessing event, which increases XP gain by 35% and gold drop by 50%. The event was initially buggy, but Blizzard has since fixed the bug, so you can participate without worrying about your bonus not being counted.
To provide more loot, Blizzard has also decided to bring back Goblin March, another popular in-game event. Unfortunately, this event won’t start until after the free weekend and Mother’s Blessing are over.
As the name implies, Goblin March increases the number of Treasure Goblins in the game and the chances of encountering them. Don’t be surprised if you see two or three goblins at the same time. You’ll also encounter more Greedy Shrines, and you’ll even find a lot of these nasty guys after killing the Cursed Gold Lord Greedy.
The Goblin March kicks off on August 27 and will run until September 3 – with goblin encounters increasing throughout the week.
