What are the rumors saying?
The rumor about the possible release period comes from Nick Baker from the XboxEra-Podcast and Jez Corden from WindowsCentral. Both speak of a possible release window in the April 2023 – an exact date is not yet known. In doing so, they refer to “proven sources” that are not further named.
The release date should also be in December to be officially announced during the Game Awards 2022. According to Corden, it should then be possible to pre-order Diablo 4 immediately afterwards. There should be a selection of several digital versions, a physical collector’s edition and a wide variety of merch items for fans. Both Corden and Baker also speak of one open beta in February 2023.
It shouldn’t surprise many anymore, but the inside sources from Baker and Corden probably also confirm the games-as-a-service nature of Diablo 4. The first season shouldn’t be long in coming and will already be in Q3 2023 follow.

Diablo 4 without Pay2Win? – How bad is the shop going?
How credible is this?
Turned in already in the summer supposedly leaked Activision document his rounds on the internet. Back then, it was originally posted on the r/classicwow subreddit. The document correctly predicted the launch date of Warzone 2 and also the release start of Modern Warfare 2. It also mentions the Diablo 4 pre-purchase and the Game Awards, which would support inside information from Jez Corden and Nick Baker.
The release period doesn’t seem too far off either. At the big Microsoft Showcase in June 2022, not only was the release year 2023 confirmed, but there was also talk that all games in the showcase should be released in the next twelve months. That would mean for Diablo 4 that it will definitely be released in the first half of the year – which makes April seem realistic.
But as is so often the case, you should of course take these rumors with a good dose of skepticism. Whether these are actually insider leaks or unfounded rumors, we will probably only see on December 8th, when Geoff Keighley welcomes us to the Game Awards 2022.
