Even before launch, Blizzard has been talking about ray tracing features in Diablo 4 quite frequently. Although it’s never actually been shown off, it’s understood that ray tracing support is coming.
With Diablo 4 coming out and delivering two full seasons, we’ve yet to see that promise fulfilled, but that could change soon.

At CES 2024, Nvidia confirmed that a suite of games will soon receive ray tracing and DLSS support. The list includes Dragon’s Dogma 2, Horizon Forbidden West (a PC version has yet to be confirmed), and Diablo 4. Of course, Blizzard’s action RPG already supports DLSS, both in the form of frame generation and graphics upgrades.
During its keynote, Nvidia showed off a brief trailer for ray tracing in Diablo 4, confirming that the game will receive ray-traced reflections as well as ray-traced shadows. The video also shows performance with DLSS 3 turned on and off, but it’s misleading as it doesn’t state the resolution or GPU used.
Still, both effects look incredible and will certainly go a long way in enhancing the game’s visuals – especially in dungeons. Watch it all in the video below:
The March release goal is to put this update firmly into Season 3 territory, which likely means it will be released alongside other game updates in addition to ray tracing. We’re still waiting for Blizzard to actually start talking about Season 3, which is expected to start right after Season 2 ends on January 23rd.
We expect at least one livestream between now and then (probably next week). One thing we know Season 3 will bring, though, is The Challenge – a leaderboard-driven end-game dungeon similar to Diablo 3’s Challenge Rift. As for the new content, we still need to wait for Blizzard’s official announcement.
