Imagine it’s 3 o’clock in the morning. You’re playing Anno 1800 and munching away a bag of chips, as you do – and suddenly you stumble over a mountain of corpses. In any case, under these circumstances I would have accepted the warning “You should take a break, you’ve been playing for 6 hours” for the first time and only switched on Anno 1800 again in daylight.
So let it be a warning so you don’t catch yourself unprepared and drop your chips in shock: Since the latest update, you’ll find two pretty scary Easter Eggs in Anno 1800 – at least if you’re willing to walk 20 minutes through the pampas to traipse.
How to find the Secret Waterfall Temple
Both secrets can be found on Manola, the new main island of the New World that spawned out of the mist with Rise of the New World. We should have known something was wrong! Attention, to find the secrets you have to walk for quite a while, so pack your good walking shoes.

Rise of the New World: The furious finale Anno deserves?
You start on Manola a little east of the dam, where there are some mines. Somewhere in the undergrowth follows a path up. At this point you let yourself fall into the first-person perspective with Ctrl + Shift + R and climb the path into an area that is actually inaccessible. This hiking trail is signposted as “Monkey Trail” – a little hint for later.
Follow the way markers until you come to a small lake – where freshwater crocodiles are waiting for you. Turn sharp left before the lake and follow the path up the mountain. At the top you have a fantastic view of your city. Down the mountain again towards the waterfalls – and up to a suspension bridge. You walk under a waterfall right next to the suspension bridge. Where there should actually be a rock face, you can enter a cave. In this there is a temple with an altar full of chalices – and two corpses that have found their final resting places in front of it. A voice whispers “Indian Jones…” (Okay, that last part is a lie, but it might as well be!)
We have recorded our journey through the Monkey Trail for you here:

How to find the three headed gorilla
Behind you, a three-headed monkey! Ah no, probably more in front of you. In order to find the second secret on Manola, you have to follow the path a little further after the suspension bridge. Then you come across an area with high grass, in which not an Eevee is hiding, but a three-headed gorilla – who runs away as quickly as he appeared:

In this love letter, I wrote that the first-person perspective allows a completely new view of Anno 1800 and even made me fall in love with the game all over again:

A huge thank you goes to our reader Stephan Werner, who uncovered this secret for us – so that we didn’t have to do it by accident at 3 a.m. and carry eternal nightmares away.
