news culture Disney+: This cult saga is making a comeback. If you grew up in the 90’s this is for you
Whether you’re a writer or a cinephile, you must have heard of this Jules Verne masterpiece. Adapted countless times on the small and big screens, Journey to the Center of the Earth is back on Disney+!
A legendary story
It couldn’t be more legendary Journey to the Center of the Earth so much has the adventure novel forged a whole chunk of modern popular fiction. Written by Jules Verne
Adapted several times for cinema and the small screen, we still remember the 2008 feature film directed by Eric Brevig. The latter particularly emphasized the big ones Brendan Fraser (which we had already discovered in The Mummy and which you can see again recently The whale) as well as the boys Josh Hutcherson (which you might see later in the saga hunger gamesand which you may have seen in before The Mystery of Terabithia). Despite being very different from the book, the film enjoyed some success in the 2000s, allowing it to benefit from a sequel in 2012. If Brendan Fraser was no longer part of the cast back then, viewers could enjoy the presence of Dwayne Johnson
Modern review
While Disney was already very attached to this story (which is the subject of some attractions in their parks), Mickey’s company is now offering its own series adaptation! This Spanish adaptation, now available on its SVOD service, promises a recent update that certainly risks dividing viewers, but which will have the advantage of attracting a new audience.
Summary:
Diego’s dream is to see his exploits in video games translate into very real explorations. He is a creative and curious kid, an inventor and the leader of his circle of friends. With the latter, Diego will spend the summer at the summer camp of Pompilio Calderón, an explorer who is as well-known as he is eccentric. You will then find a locket that belonged to Diego’s grandmother, Pola. If they follow this clue, they will discover ruins and a mysterious portal that leads to the Vernes Dimension, a parallel universe that matches what our planet could have been if it hadn’t been consumed by mankind’s greed. The group will then go on incredible adventures to help Pola bring balance between the two dimensions and thus save the planet from catastrophe.
As you can see in the trailer available in autoplay, this adaptation promises its share of adventures. If we can already complain about a quality of special effects that isn’t always there, we must be tempted to find out if the series is worth the detour.
