Only a few months left until the release of the Elden Ring: Shadow of the World Tree DLC. Fans have already discovered several clues that could help unravel one of his mysteries.
Only a few months remain until the release of the “Elden Ring: Shadow of the World Tree” DLC, which is sure to reignite interest in the FromSoftware title. This new adventure, expected for June 21st, promises to be gigantic and take us to a new environment. The player meets Miquella, brother of Malenia, who is known as the most formidable of the Empyreans. Unfortunately, we still know relatively little about the history of this additional content. But that obviously didn’t stop fans from investigating. It could well be that everything has actually been under our noses all along.
The ultimate secret of Elden Ring? It is possible !
As mentioned, we don’t really know where this DLC will take us. However, Messmer, an enigmatic character revealed thanks to the expansion’s collectible dedicated to him, could not be missed. For fans, everything points to him being at the center of the story of The Shadow of the World Tree. He could possibly even be the final boss. Unless FromSoftware releases another surprise enemy, like at the end of Elden Ring, when everything led us to believe that Malenia would be the ultimate enemy before the game’s release. At the moment we know very little about him, except that he is nicknamed Impaler. This is a direct allusion to the historical figure Vlad the Impaler, who inspired Dracula. On his figure and in the trailer we see him with a spear and snakes (which will be important later).
But who is this mysterious character? For fans it’s pretty clear: it could be one of the children of the goddess Marika and Radagon. And thus the brother of Melania and Miquella. Again, there are no real clues other than her red hair and the more sustained presence of Miquella in this new story. Furthermore, his throne is identical to that of the other demigods. His personal his tory is still very mysterious, but fans speculate that he led an attack on Marika before hiding in the Shadowlands. In addition, when we enter the World Tree, we can see a statue of the goddess pierced by a scarlet spear. This seems to support this theory. However, Messmer has never been mentioned in Elden Ring until now… well, that’s what we thought until then.
What if Messmer was already under our noses
The name Messmer was never found in Elden Ring, but its symbols are very numerous. We can talk about the user in particular cudakid210a, who made a funny discovery about “The Shield of the Candelabra.” It depicts a candlestick with 7 branches, mixed with a tree. His description is also interesting: “Since this tree emblem in the form of a candelabra was considered a symbol of an intolerable and prophetic mortal sin, it was strictly forbidden.”
The connection to Messmer is not entirely clear, but it reminds the user of the candles that constantly surround him in the caravan. The aforementioned deadly sin would also apply to Messmer, but particularly to his absence in Elden Ring. “The fact that the candelabra is associated with a secret prophecy, m‘makes you think that Messmer was erased from the mythology of Middle-earth because of his sin. He would then be a kind of anti-Christian figure.”he explains.
A second clue was discovered, this time by YouTuber eldencaofr, at the Putrid Duelists. This gladiator-looking monster wears the red color of decay. But above all, he can fight thanks to his arm that turns into a snake. The videographer immediately makes a connection with Messmer and his snakes (which we mentioned above). He believes that these creatures could be soldiers with a mysterious character since they have the same symbols. Yes, it’s still pretty thin, but anything is possible in Hidetaka Miyazaki’s very thoughtful universe.
Before you find the Shadow of the World Tree DLC, which will be available from June 21st for PS5, Xbox Series, PC, PS4 and Xbox One, you can already catch up on Elden Ring or start a new attempt that is already on is available to all platforms already mentioned.
