According to a recent report by Wccftech.com Nvidia stops supplying RTX 4070 chips for a month shortly after the release. The reason for this is said to be poor sales figures worldwide since the GPU was released on April 13th.
The demand on the day of publication was quite high. After that, however, it should have ebbed away quite strongly. The initially high demand was also reflected in the sales figures of the large Europe online retailer Mindfactory, which we have already reported on:
In the past release week, the RTX 4070 was the best-selling GPU at Mindfactory. Since these are only the numbers of a single shop, their significance is limited at the same time.
Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see whether the report from Wccftech (also with a view to the Europe shop in question) is confirmed and how sales figures and availability of the RTX 4070 develop there and in other shops.
Why Nvidia might stop shipping the RTX 4070
According to Wccftech, the one-month break should serve to prevent the RTX 4070 from being oversupplied or the warehouse from being too full.
An important aspect is that Nvidia continues to see a high priority in selling the remaining stock of RTX 3000 graphics cards before they are gradually replaced by the RTX 4000 generation.
The RTX 4070 is currently available from numerous retailers in Europey in large quantities and at prices below its RRP of 659 dollars. The same applies to many Radeon models from AMD.
A situation that one would have longed for a year or two ago on the GPU market, albeit with the exception of the high RRPs. You can find out more about this here:
What was forever unthinkable in the graphics card market is real again, but not without a catch
According to the current status of the rumor mill, the next smaller model of the RTX 4000 generation in the form of the RTX 4060 Ti is expected at the end of May 2023. A possible price is 450 US dollars, the storage capacity should be 8.0 GB. It will be interesting to see how supply and demand compare in this case.
Do you think the current rumors about Nvidia’s supposed delivery stop of the RTX 4070 are plausible? What do you think of the graphics card in general and what do you expect from the upcoming RTX 4060 (Ti) and possible new GPUs from Nvidia’s competitor AMD? Feel free to write it in the comments!
