Borderlands 3 has finally been playable on Steam since March 13, 2020, half a year after the original release in the Epic Games Store, as well as some other games. The Steam version is also a great success, at times on the weekend of the release, according to SteamDB, almost 100,000 players were simultaneously in the loot shooter.
The YouTuber Ki11er S1x asked in his video whether there are technical differences between the two Borderlands 3 versions and one Benchmark comparison
More FPS & fewer crashes
For its comparison, the YouTuber used the benchmark mode included in the game, each with the same settings: WQHD resolution and slightly adjusted Ultra presets.
He found the following differences between Epic and Steam:
- More FPS: The Steam version has a slightly higher number of frames per second. However, the difference is relatively small. While Borderlands 3 shows an average of 93.7 frames per second on Steam, it is 91.9 in the Epic Games version.
- Better framtimes: The frame times, i.e. the time to calculate a single image, are also shorter on Steam: Average 10.67 milliseconds against 10.88 millieseconds of the Epic version.
- Lag free menus: Ki11er S1x emphasizes that the menus of the Steam version feel much smoother. Although this can no longer be substantiated, we reported at the end of last year that Borderlands 3 was struggling with FPS drops and lag in the menus.
- Fewer crashes: The YouTuber claims to have streamed Borderlands 3 on the day of the Steam release and had experienced three crashes with the Epic version. After switching to the Steam version, these were a thing of the past.
Although are the measurable differences are only marginal, the YouTuber emphasizes that the game just feels better overall on Steam. Since he himself has no problem with the Epic Games Store, he does not assume that his feeling has been affected by certain launcher preferences.

Steam is twice as popular with you as the Epic Store Launcher
However, the Steam version has a big advantage: Since the Epic Games Launcher does not support achievements, these were previously reserved for players on Playstation 4 and Xbox One. PC players can now collect them with the Steam version.
