Yesterday, Sony would have been one of the most surprising announcements of the year, if not the entire console generation. The platform holder has announced that both of its PS5 versions will increase in price in most regions except the US.
The announcement caused a flurry of shock among fans, not only because Sony cited reasons behind the unusual decision, but also because of the ramifications it could have for the wider industry, including rival Xbox.
Well, it looks like – at least for now – Microsoft isn’t considering a similar price hike for the Xbox Series X or Series S. A Microsoft spokesperson told Windows Central that prices for both consoles will remain the same as they are today, in dollars, dollars, and pounds.
“We are constantly evaluating our business to provide our fans with a great selection of games. Our MSRP remains at $300 ($300, £250) for the Xbox Series S and $500 ($500, £450) for the Xbox Series X ),” the spokesman said.
Of course, as Windows Central points out, that doesn’t mean Microsoft can’t end up raising prices. But at least for now, prices in the Xbox camp will remain the same.
