Surprise! To coincide with QuakeCon, id Software has released a previously unannounced bundle of the Enhanced Editions of DOOM and DOOM II.
Nobody had that on their radar. id Software has just pulled a new DOOM bundle out of its pocket, which has now appeared in stores for under 10 dollars. DOOM + DOOM II is now available as a bundle on Steam, Epic Games, GOG, the Switch eShop (US only), PlayStation Store (PS4 and PS5) and the Microsoft Store (Xbox One and Series X/S).
And the package really has it all, and not just because it’s enhanced versions of the two classics. The content alone is a full DOOM package at its finest. It includes:
-
DOOM
-
DOOM II
-
TNT: Evilution
-
The Plutonia Experiment
-
Master Levels for DOOM II
-
No Rest for the Living
-
Sigil
-
Legacy of Rust (a new episode created in collaboration between id Software, Nightdive Studios and MachineGames)
-
a new Deathmatch map pack with 26 maps
This means that there are 187 mission maps and 43 deathmatch maps in the game. Phew. But there are also numerous technical revisions. These include cross-platform deathmatches and co-op mode for up to 16 players, mod browser with hundreds of available mods, up to 4K resolution, new KEX engine, new accessibility options and of course all the previous improvements of the enhanced versions such as revised controls, improved graphics and much more.
Owners of DOOM or DOOM II will receive a free upgrade to the new two-game package and the various expansions. The new package is also included free of charge in Game Pass for PC and Xbox. Access to the old versions will remain available on all platforms.
Awesome, right? If you don’t snap it up for just under 10 dollars, you only have yourself to blame.
There’s also good news for DOOM Eternal, as the game is getting mod support for PC. “We’re very impressed with the DOOM Eternal community mods created without official tools. They’ve inspired us to release a public beta of idStudio for developers and an opt-in PC mod preview for players so they can easily browse and play mods. We can’t wait to see what the community does next,” said id Software on the official website.
