Dragon Age 4 is much deeper than the first gameplay presentation suggested, while also revealing promising new details.
The development of Dragon Age 4: The Veilguard was obviously long and full of pitfalls, but it seems that BioWare has done its utmost to offer a game that lives up to the long-awaited expectations. At least, that’s what we can glean from new gameplay details.
A gameplay that promises to be dense for Dragon Age 4
Dragon Age 4 was presented for the first time on June 11th, then contented itself with presenting the prologue, all the mechanics of which were still to be discovered. This is thanks to various previews such as ours or the very extensive one from Game Informer that we can appreciate more the work of BioWare. This time it is the combat that interests us here, which is considered “the best in the series” according to the director of the previous works.
When creating a character, we will have access to three classes: warrior, mage and thief. The first focuses on parrying and stunning enemies, the second on powerful spells such as a wall of fire and the last on agility and devastating attacks in the shadows. In addition, it will be possible to choose three unique specializations per class.
The companions will not be left behind in battles. They will have their own talent tree that we can develop through points. When it comes to commanding them, this will be done through an action wheel in which we can incorporate between three and five skills. Otherwise, they will fight alone. We could also see that the status effects that we know from Mass Effect 3 in particular will be present.
This makes it possible to create combinations of effects that produce devastating results. Given companions, a certain synergy thus arises between them. Despite its interventionist gameplay, more action-oriented compared to Origins and Inquisition, Dragon Age 4 does not seem to lack a certain tactical aspect. We will be able to see it better when it launches this fall on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series.
