With Dragon Quest 3 Remake, Square Enix seems to have done nothing by halves to (re)discover this iconic episode of a great but unfortunately little-known license.
The legend of Erdrick will receive a beautiful makeover with Dragon Quest 3 Remake HD-2D on November 14th on PC, PS5, Xbox Series and Switch. We also learned the good news thanks to the latest Nintendo Direct. In any case, this reinterpretation of this legendary title does not seem to have usurped its remake title, full of additions that are as qualitative as they are ambitious, as the following video shows.
Dragon Quest 3 Remake promises to be brilliant
While waiting to get their hands on the game, Famitsu was able to spend a few very privileged hours with Dragon Quest 3 Remake. The site was also full of praise (the community won’t say the same about the overpriced collector’s item, considering what it offers) for a visibly high-quality remake of a title that is just as well-known but relatively little known in the West. In any case, veterans shouldn’t lose their bearings, even if the gameplay has been significantly improved for a more modern audience.
The same observation applies to the graphics, keeping that retro side but bringing it up to date. Dragon Quest 3 Remake will also be able to run on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series up to 4K at 60 FPS and will offer two display modes: frame rate (60 FPS) and graphics (4K). Other quality of life additions such as auto-save, difficulty levels or even two camera distances are also on the agenda.
In combat and conversations, too, this revamp will bring many welcome changes. These include random battles, even in the city, new skills or even more people to chat with. The pinnacle of happiness, the entire Legend of Erdrick, should be entitled to the same treatment. The two previous episodes will also go through the HD 2D remake box in 2025. This is a nice tribute to this great J-RPG license as well as to its late legendary character designer, the irreplaceable Akira Toriyama.
