The day I have money, time and space, I’m going to turn my house into a Guitar Hero and Rock Band temple. From that time is what is probably still my favorite period as a player today, so anything that comes even remotely close to that seems like a good way to travel back in time.
The last bridge has been laid Drums Rock, a Spanish virtual reality game about playing the drums that has become one of my travel companions during the review of PS VR2. Despite being marked as early access on Steam, what I found in the glasses PS5 It is already a round game that only remains to continue upwards.
A battery of songs
Although examples of drums and virtual reality clinging to the plastic music of those games we have already seen a few, Drums Rock puts a spin on the concept of falling notes to create a style of its own.
Hand in hand with its own soundtrack and mythical songs like I Love Rock’n Roll
Despite being a huge fan of rhythm games, I’m among those who haven’t been given the gift of understanding or controlling it, so I could say outright that I’m pretty bad. Drums Rock You can sign up there as much if you want, because it has managed not only to get me hooked, but also to get me to try to get my favorite songs out.
Between the campaign, special levels, final bosses and online leaderboards, the game gives you enough so that you can enjoy it until you burn it, but beyond the nostalgia, the songs or the fun, what has surprised me the most about Drums Rock it is to what extent it is a game calculated to the millimeter.
Personalization, accessibility and more
As if the addition of songs for free did not already give a good account of it, the game of Garage51 It is far from being one of those projects that puts everything on the line. The customization of hands, sticks and drums is the perfect excuse to continue playing and trying to master songs, but it also makes it very easy.
From being able to play almost all the songs at any level to adjusting the position of the drums and their height so that you can accommodate yourself as well as possible. With Horizon Call of the Mountain still to be finished, I couldn’t help but get hooked even though I was only going in for a five minute first taste at the time.
To the fun of playing the notes to the rhythm is added the nice point of being able to freak out, both busting bigger demons and facing final bosses pounding the drums, but if there is something that won me over completely it was the possibility of throwing the drumsticks, catch them in the air, and hit the next note with a scoring bonus.
While it’s not here to put you on the ropes, it does get there sooner rather than later, so those looking for a challenge I highly doubt they’ll be disappointed. In any case Drums Rock It’s one of those games that seems focused on you having a good time no matter how you play.
iGamesNews’s opinion
To the grateful rise of experimentation in rhythm games with examples such as Hi-Fi Rush, No Straight Roads o Metal: Hellsinger, from time to time more classic proposals are presented based on nostalgia instead of innovation. Perhaps the greatest achievement of Drums Rock has been knowing how to navigate between those two waters.
With a classic and arcade spirit, Drums Rock turns the concept of Guitar Hero to go one step further without losing that same essence. It feels like a game with plastic instruments and, well, in a sense you also have plastic drumsticks in your hands, but it twists the initial idea into something more varied and original.
With the hope that those fears continue to accumulate -although they make the rest of the soundtrack less-, Drums Rock It has all the numbers to become one of those games that I go to when I don’t feel like playing anything else. It’s not the title that will sell you a VR headset, but if you have one you might want to check it out.

- A tighter difficulty curve would be appreciated.
