Dune: Awakening: Possibly later than expected

Awakening, Dune, Expected, possibly

The promising MMO Dune: Awakening could be a little longer than previously suspected. This has to do with the interpretation of the communicated release period.

Funcom has been working on the sci-fi-MMO Dune for a long time: Awakening, which has so far been very promising. The excursion to the desert planet Arrakis has not yet had a specific release date, but it has a release period. However, it can apparently be interpreted quite far, as the developers now emphasize.

In concrete terms, Funcom has so far announced that Dune: Awakening “in early 2025” should be available, but wouldn't it be time for a specific date? The makers cannot be elicited further, because the flat rate can be interpreted quite differently – as you can now talk to the colleagues from Eurogamer underlined.

“I assume that depends on how to define the beginning,” said Executive Producer Scott Junior in this regard. “It could be the first half of 2025 – that could mean 'initially'. I leave it. It could be the first half of 2025.”

In view of this statement and the outstanding specific date, we may have to be patient a few months longer than previously suspected until we can make Arrakis unsafe. And then it remains to be seen how Funcom wants to make money with the game – that is, what we have to do for it.

The monetarization strategy is also only to be announced when the release comes closer. Dune: Awakening is not sold as a free-to-play title, but at the same time there should also be no monthly subscription such as at World of Warcraft. At least these two points were officially confirmed. The most likely is therefore a scenario that provides for a unique purchase price for the main game and further fees for upcoming extensions.
