E3 2022 is finally throwing in the towel and canceling its edition, both physically and online. A task in aid of Summer Game Fest 2022, which returns in June.
This is finally news that will not surprise many: E3 2022 is being cancelled. While ESA had promised an online edition, there will be none. A denial that could finally seal the future of the American salon. But since the misfortune of some is the happiness of others, the Summer Game Fest 2022 is a natural choice.
A smell of the end
At a time when life is (almost) normalizing and video game events like Tokyo Game Show and Gamescom are returning, E3 2022 cancels EVERYTHING. No physical issue, no online appointment scheduling. Nothing, well. According to rumors in the corridor, the organizer of the event claimed responsibility by sending this message:
We will focus all of our energy and resources on delivering a renewed E3 experience, both physically and digitally, next summer. Whether in the living room or on your favorite devices, E3 2023 will bring community, media and industry together in a completely new format and interactive experience. We look forward to bringing E3 2023 live from Los Angeles to fans around the world.
In truth, the show was in a bad place even before the pandemic. In fact, the location has been shunned by Sony Interactive Entertainment for a number of years. One of the most important and important players in the influence of the show. And let’s not even talk about the giant Nintendo, which fled long ago, while Electronic Arts and Microsoft also left the convention center for a few years.
So we could read that there have been tensions between ESA and the participants, including PlayStation, in recent years. In 2019, the salon’s reputation suffered another blow following the leak of professionals’ personal information. Most importantly, with the advent of livestream meetings, manufacturers and publishers have learned to manage themselves while saving big bucks in the process. In short, a collection of things coming to an end might suggest a total end to E3. Will this be the case? We’ll see for sure.
E3 2022 is dead, long live Summer Game Fest 2022
Like Solid Snake, Agent 47, or a Weasel, presenter Geoff Keighley surfed these messages to announce it was him summer game Fest 2022 takes place in June. Either the same month as the usual E3…how coincidental!
Do you think this new cancellation of E3 while other shows are happening means the death of the event? Do you believe in reincarnation? Tell us everything in the comments.
