With a new variant of Covid sweeping the world, the Entertainment Software Association has once again decided to hold this year’s E3 event online only.
E3 2022Although ESA last year wanted to host an in-person event in 2022, like E3 2021, it will be a virtual one.
ESA said in a statement that it will not host a live event in June due to “potential impacts on the safety of exhibitors and attendees.” Still, the association said it remains “very excited about the future of E3” and looks forward to announcing more details soon.
Meanwhile, CES will be in-person as we spe ak in Las Vegas, and as things stand, GDC, which takes place every March, will be an in-person event.
E3 2021 officially took place June 12-15, but many developers and companies held virtual demos before and after the main event.
The Guerrilla Collective Showcase, Battlefield 2024 Reveal Event, Summer Game Fest Kickoff Live, Netflix Geeked Week, Koch Primetime, and IGN Expo all take place ahead of E3 2021.
Key programming includes presentations from Devolver Digital, Microsoft and Bethesda, and Square Enix. Ubisoft Forward, PC Gaming Show, Future Games Show and Nintendo Treehouse Live also took place during the main show.
Others, like EA, Nancon, and Sony held events later in the summer.
We assume we can expect a similar format in 2022.
