According to reports, EA plans to release the latest information on EA Sports College Football on the day of this year’s NCAA College Football Playoff National Championship.
The game, a revival of the old NCAA football series, is expected to release sometime this summer, and EA has resolved some legal issues stemming from the use of player likenesses in the game. Currently, we haven’t seen much information about the game since its release in 2021, but that could change this coming Monday.

Brandon Marcello of 247Sports reports that EA plans to release an “official update” for the game to coincide with this year’s College Football Playoff national championship game between Michigan and Washington State Contest.
Marcelo’s report highlights that it’s unclear whether such an update on the game’s development will include a specific release date, although it does appear that there are some new screenshots showing that it’s possible that the action could be coming.
As mentioned, if accurate, a game update released during a major championship game would reflect the way EA promoted its old NCAA Football series in the 2000s. The series concludes with NCAA Football 14 as EA becomes embroiled in a growing controversy over whether the NCAA should compensate its players rather than continue to treat them as amateurs.
The debate has taken some turns in recent years, with NCAA President Charlie Baker proposing last month to allow Division I schools to pay some athletes through a trust fund. He also suggested allowing these universities to enter into “name, image and likeness licensing agreements” with athletes, which sounds like it might make it easier for EA to use real players in its college football games.
According to VGC, EA CEO Andrew Wilson introduced the development progress of EA Sports College Football during the summer 2023 earnings call. Football versus the NFL,” he continued, “I’m very confident in the performance of the team. “
Wilson also said that EA is “working hard” to secure all licenses required for the game, claiming: “As of now, we have secured licenses from many, if not most, schools as part of our licensing platform.”
