Game News Elden Ring: Shadow of the ErdTree is one of the best DLCs of all time
Elden Ring DLC has been released. After the extraordinary adventure offered by FromSoftware in 2022, Shadow of the ErdTree is eagerly awaited by players and is already convincing some players by attracting the press. As the person in charge of the JV test, I am one of the players who have fallen under the spell of this universe for a second time.
A colossal adventure
In 2022, Elden Ring seduced the world of video games thanks to its open world. The first steps of the From Software studio in this type of games proved that it could be relied upon when it came to renewing championship
As we discuss in our video review below, what really impresses is the level design (what we can call architecture). The Realm of Shadows, the new region of the DLC, has several floors. More or lessIt is therefore a three-dimensional region that the player explores, even though his map is shown in two dimensions.
The Realm of Shadows is full of backdoors and hidden paths. We quickly get into the game of exploration, as each area has its own identity. But it is also necessary (we explain it in the video review) to offer some semblance of resistance to the great enemies we encounter.
Clashes as extraordinary as ever
Epic battles have been FromSoftware’s identity since the beginning with Demon’s Souls in 2009. The Shadow of the ErdTree DLC continues the tradition a minimum twelve major bosses, each as impressive as the next. Each confrontation is exciting and, in my opinion, even more memorable than those of Elden Ring. Beyond their spectacular aspect (in terms of execution), the fights are all the more delicious because of their demands; they help to highlight the importance of exploration; put all players on an equal footing from the start with a high level of difficulty; and, above all, represent rewarding hurdles to overcome.
In short, it’s hard to say that Shadow of the ErdTree really represents an exceptional experience. With a lifespan of almost forty hours, it surpasses some recent major productions. For me, it’s much more than a DLC, but a game in its own right. Something that the press as a whole seems to emphasize: Shadow of the ErdTree has a rating of 95/100 at the time of writing. This is the highest rating ever achieved for a DLC, previously received by The Witcher 3’s Blood & Wine expansion.
