elder ring won the Best Game Writing category of the Nebula Awards, beating out some other top contenders.
The Nebula Awards, an awards body that honors some of the best science fiction and fantasy work each year, were held earlier this week, and as every year since 2018, the Best Games Writing category was part of this year’s lineup . Given that Elden Ring won Game of the Year at the Game Developers Choice Awards and The Game Awards, you probably won’t be surprised.
There wasn’t actually a wide range of big-name games taking the award, Elden Ring was nominated along with other titles such as Horizon Forbidden West, Vampire: The Masquerade – Sires, Pentiment, Stray and Journeys through the Radiant Citadel.
Nebula is published by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association, a nonprofit organization of science fiction and fantasy writers. George RR Martin contributes to the Elden Ring story in an incredibly ambiguous way, having actually won their awards before in 1973 and 1979, his third. So it might be an even bigger deal for director Hidetaka Miyazaki, since th is is his first win in Nebulas (thanks PCGamer).
Elden Ring won the award for best game writing along with games like Hades, The Outer Worlds and Black Mirror: Bandersnatch (winners in 2020, 2019 and 2018, respectively). The category also nominates tabletop games, as TTRPG Thirsty Sword Lesbians wins in 2021.
Earlier this year, FromSoftware announced that some DLC called “Shadows of the Erdtree” was coming, although we basically knew nothing about it other than its name. All we know is that it’s in development, and we don’t even know when it’s coming out, so you just have to hurry up now.
