WITHenimax have announced they will be revealing their next major chapter details for the MMORPG Elder Scrolls Online on January 27th 2022 during their livestream.
Elder Scrolls Online Global Reveal Event for Next Chapter on January 27th
As teased previously, Zenimax will be unveiling new details about the next year for Elder Scrolls Online, particularly what the next chapter will be focusing on, and the year of themed content. Read on for what time to tune in, what will be revealed as well as what could be revealed.
What will be revealed?
The post on the official Elder Scrolls Online website outlines that it will be the “first look at the upcoming Chapter and DLCs that make up this year’s brand-new Elder Scrolls adventure”. This means we will have a whole year following a more nautical theme, teasing a “never-before-seen-world”.
The last chapter Blackwood, followed the year-long content of The Gates of Oblivion, which dived in to the oblivion portals following the hellish plans of the Daedric Prince Mehrunes Dagon.
This year’s content has already been teased, as the developer shared a new video clip relating to the next chapter, a turbulent sea setting with what looks to be pirate ships. The developer has also been sharing in tweets a few hints, including “a storm is on the horizon”.

Also in the end of year message, it was hinted that we’ll be getting more story “concentrating on one of THAT’s playable races that has not yet had a full cultural and historical deep dive”. Whether this will be the main theme of the next expansion or explored more in a DLC is still unknown, but we’ll be finding out during the livestream.
What Could Be Revealed
Possible reveals could be another Companion for ESO. The companion system was introduced with Blackwood, giving players the first two Companions to team up with either Mirri or Bastion (let’s face it, Mirri is the top pick) in their adventures. Another Companion could introduce more options in terms of compositions as Mirri has Nightblade Companion Skills and Bastian has more Dragonknight skills.
Another possible reveal could be another playable Class. The last Class to join the game was the amazing Necromancer, which specialises in summoning the undead and also has the multi-rez ability Reanimate which is going to be hard to top. Necromancer was introduced with the Elsweyr expansion, and has been some time since we’ve had a new Class join the game. One criticism of the Necromancer is that the summons are not long-lasting, which some players felt was a little lacklustre for the class. A new Class with more permanent summons could be an interesting addition, something to rival the Feral Guardian skill from Warden.
As for content, previously in a Q & A with Rich Lambert in the Washington Post about the future of ESO, the creative director shared that the game will continue to add new systems, which has been prevalent with the addition of Companions in Blackwood, the Antiquity system in Greymoor and more.
Seeing ships in the teaser trailer could mean something seaworthy related, or ESO could be going underwater as that is something the game hasn’t done yet. MMORPGs such as Final Fantasy XIV and World of Warcraft have all focused on underwater regions, some better than others, and ESO could add something similar if not a closed-off region rather than a whole new world mechanic. While you can travel by boat to certain locations, some sort of manual boat travel could open up some possibilities of island exploration.
The trailer shows traveling by ship which could mean a whole new island to explore. The armor shown in the trailer could be something to do with Breton, so maybe we’ll be getting to know more about this race, as teased by the end of year message. The hint of a “storm” could mean trying to seize control or battle ahead with warring sides.
