Electronic Arts continues to clean up and is now pulling the plug for two more games as far as online services are concerned. We tell you here which titles are specifically affected.
Publisher Electronic Arts stopped the online services for four games just a few weeks ago. Among them were several well-known titles with the classic shooters Medal of Honor, Medal of Honor: Airborne and Medal of Honor: Warfighter. After these cuts in February, the spring cleaning is now being continued and capacities are being freed up by shutting down the online services for two more games.
Today it was confirmed that the online services of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning from 2012 and Warp will be discontinued with immediate effect. Compared to the last such cut, the effects this time should have significantly less impact on the players.
While the games in the Medal of Honor shooter series drew on rich online features, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is primarily a single-player action RPG. Warp, on the other hand, is a single-player puzzle/stealth game. The former featured a special pass online feature that granted access to additional content. The latter relied on online leaderboards. From today, May 15th, at least these two sub-areas will no longer be available on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, but the actual games can of course still be played solo.
The new edition Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is not affected; the remaster also has an additional expansion package to offer and is in this respect the technically better and more extensive version of the RPG classic. Warp, on the other hand, was not backwards compatible and therefore could not even be played on newer hardware.
The next planned step should therefore make a little more noise as far as the discontinuation of online services is concerned. On November 6, 2023, EA will pull the plug on FIFA 18, FIFA 19, FIFA 20 and FIFA 21 in this regard.
