After the numbers were released, Andrew Wilson, CEO, Chris Evenden, Vice President Investor Relations, and Blake Jorgensen, Chief Financial and Operations Officer, presented their balance sheets in person to those who have invested capital in Electronic Arts.
When asked about the situation regarding the Star Wars license, especially the ongoing projects, Andrew Wilson jumped to defend the editor’s record with numbers:
We’re not going to announce any new things here. But I would say if you look at our story with Star Wars we have a long and very successful relationship, first with Lucasart, then with / or Lucasfilm and then with Disney’s Lucasfilm.
We have generated a number of large licenses including The Old Republic, Galaxy of Heroes, Battlefront, Jedi: Fallen Order and, more recently, Squadrons. This corresponds to net sales of more than $ 3 billion and 52 million games sold. And Galaxy of Heroes is a billion dollar franchise.
This is a reminder that ending exclusivity in 2023 and starting a project at Ubisoft doesn’t have the worth of divorce. The partnership, while the Battlefront II microtransactional affair has certainly created some tension, won’t end when everyone reports. Outside of the sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order, it remains to be seen what awaits players on EA’s side.
