Eli Roth’s film adaptation of Borderlands The series will be released in theaters on August 9, 2024.
Theatrical release dates were announced at SDCC (thanks Deadline).
The movie won’t be exactly the same as the Borderlands video game universe, but it promises to stay true to its characters, tone, and style.
Judging by the plot, a mob is trying to save the missing daughter of Atlas, the most powerful bastard in the universe. During the journey, the troops will fight against alien monsters, bandits and more. They also discover that they hold the key to saving the universe.
The script was written by Ross and Joe Crombie, not Craig Mazin as previously rumored (thanks Variety). Ari Arad, Avi Arad and Erik Feig serve as producers, and Gearbox Studios and Take-Two Interactive produce.
Announced seven years ago as a collaboration with Liongate, the film stars Cate Blanchett (Lilith), Jamie Lee Curtis (Dr. Patricia Tanis), Kevin Hart (Roland), Gina Gershon (Moxie), Ariana Greenblatt (Little Tina), Olivier Richters (Crome), Florian Montenuo (Krieger), Edgar Ramirez (Atlas), Jack Black (Boisterous), Hayley Bennett, B. Obi Lee (Larry), Janina Gavanka (Knox), Cheyenne Jackson (Jacobs), Benjamin Baron Davis (Marcus), Charles Babalola (Hammerlock), Steven Boyer (Scout), Justin Price (Psycho) and Paula Andrea Placido (Quinn).
The Borderlands franchise has sold more than 68 million copies worldwide and netted more than $1 billion. Released in 2012, Borderlands 2 is 2K’s best-selling game of all time, with 24 million copies sold.
