The Game Developers Conference aka GDC is taking place again in San Francisco and it’s about technologies, among other things. Epic Games with the Unreal Engine 5 should not be missing and, as expected, there was a lot to admire.
Uff, Epic Games has once again flexed its muscles and there is no question that the Unreal Engine will be the measure of all things for high-end graphics in the near future. Epic Games itself had a lot to show in a showcase, but some developers were also at the start with new trailers that primarily rely on the visual qualities of Unreal Engine 5.
Among other things, there was finally a sign of life from the long-awaited Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 by Ninja Theory, which already had jaws dropping in the first trailers. This time, the developers showed an example of what’s possible in terms of Senua’s facial animations:
Also at launch was Lords of the Fallen, the reboot of the Souls like by Hexworks and CI Games, which featured a new trailer showing some insights into the development processes:
But Epic Games also had a lot to show themselves. In a fairly extensive tech demo, new features of the new version Unreal Engine 5.2 were presented and caused a lot of astonished faces:
Finally, there was something for Fortnite fans too, as Epic Games introduced the Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN), available now on the Epic Games Store. The editor gives players the opportunity to create their own worlds, modes or variants directly in the game, even together. It will be exciting to see what awaits us in the coming months:
