As we prepare for the release of Resident Evil 4 Remake, Capcom has been inviting us to watch a bizarre anime spinoff about the adventures of Leon and Ashley called Leon and the Mysterious Village.
The third episode of the series, from the talented folks at Nippon Animation, is titled “Help Us, Old Man” and is a few seconds longer than the previous episodes, lasting one minute and two seconds.
That said, the episodes are certainly short but sweet, and since the spinoff was conceived last week, fans — myself included — have been craving more. Capcom certainly delivered. Much like the other episodes 1 and 2, this one didn’t end well for our beloved duo.
In the village, Leon and Ashley ask an old man to build them something that will help them get home. While the two wait, they are attacked by numerous enemies; Dr. Salvador, the Parasite, multiple Ganado and even Garrador all join in the fray.
Just when Ashley and Leon ascended to the starry sky again and were ready to die, the old man drove a helicopter to come to the rescue! Except…he really doesn’t, because he obviously can’t drive this thing and crashes straight into a rookie cop and the President of the United States’ daughter. “You’re dead,” and the animation ends, which is now a tradition.
These animations largely represent how avid fans of the classic game feel about it. YouTube commenter skyleryarroll2369 summed up the episode perfectly when he said, “Love the Resident Evil series’ disdain for helicopters.”
Now, I want to make whimsical anime spinoffs of every Resident Evil classic.
