Story: What is season 4 of The Boys about?
Slight spoiler warning: Season 3 ended with Homelander’s cold-blooded murder of a Starlight supporter in public. Homelander now faces trial for this, but given his status as a superhero and with Vought and Victoria Neuman backing him up, he probably has little to fear.
Butcher is once again confronted with his mortality after the devastating diagnosis that he only has six months to live. Once again, he does everything he can to bring Homelander to his knees and bring Ryan back to his side. He receives unexpected support from an old acquaintance: CIA colleague Joe Kessler.
Season 4 of The Boys also picks up an important story element from the spin-off Gen V: In the finale of the first season, Butcher discovered the deadly Supe virus, in which Butcher sees the chance to destroy the superheroes once and for all.

Season 5: What happens after the new season?
It is already official: The Boys gets a fifth season – which will then be the last one. In fact, the brutal anti-superhero series was renewed for new episodes by Amazon Prime Video in mid-May. It is currently unknown when Season 5 will start. But we (hopefully) won’t have to wait as long as we did for Season 4.
There is a wide gap of two years between seasons 3 and 4. This is, among other things, a result of the major Hollywood strike of 2023: Since major studios and streaming services refused for months to grant actors and screenwriters fairer wages and better working conditions, numerous films and TV series were postponed.
Parallel to The Boys, production of Gen V: Season 2 started in May 2024. The second spin-off in the universe of The Boys is overshadowed by the tragic death of lead actor Chance Perdomo – it has recently been announced that his role will not be recast by Andre Anderson, but will instead be written out of Gen V.
In addition, a third spin-off is in a very early phase of development. Another series is being worked on under the working title The Boys: Mexico, but it has not yet been announced. It remains to be seen whether this project will be given the green light.
