The official lineup for Evo 2023 was announced today. Street Fighter 6 will make its Evo debut, and a host of community favorites, including Guilty Gear: Fight and Tekken 7, will return to the main stage. The prize pool for each game is at least $25,000.
This event, which was bought out by Sony and RTS in 2021, is also making some substantial changes! The quarter-finals format has been controversially dropped and replaced by quarter-finals, apparently to avoid time-outs.
Let’s start with the big ones. Street Fighter 6 will be unveiled at Evo 2023, and the many previous Evo winners interviewed as part of the announcement show will be the main focus of the excitement. Just a few days ago at the Capcom Pro Tour Finals, next year’s Capcom Cup Street Fighter 6 Champion took first place for $1,000,000. The combination of the two has thousands of people hyped to attend Evo and try out the game.
Next up is Guilty Gear: Struggle. The game has been gaining ground in the fighting game genre during the past few years of COVID and has become very popular as a result. Producer Ken Miyauchi and development director Akira Katano had a message for the audience, thanking players for their support and their seat at Evo 2023.
Dragon Ball FighterZ was less popular, but proved to be a hype booster during previous Evo events. The game has a large player community in the US, Europe and Asia. Interestingly, France emerged last year and finished first, third and fourth, with the sport standing out as a major center of European talent.

Tekken 7 is apparently making a comeback. While many are excited about more information on Tekken 8, having received a ton of new trailers over the past month or so, Harada will certainly stress that this is still Tekken 7’s time to shine. That being said, Tekken 7 is a beloved game that has grown in popularity over the years.
The King of Fighters XV is making its second appearance. It’s an excellent game that maintains a passionate community around the world while battling some netcode issues. King of Fighters is always exciting and definitely deserves a spot at the event.
After that Melting Blood: Lumina Type! The anime fighter has faded away over the past two years and has maintained its own passionate, die-hard fan base. Who knows if Baguette will have an announcement for the audience and contestants this year? hope so.
Mortal Kombat 11 is returning, and it’s weird. Mortal Kombat certainly has its own group of dedicated fighters, but much of the excitement of NRS games over the past few years has faded, largely due to a lack of information about future titles and remaining updates for the latest titles. That being said, it’s always a crowd pleaser, and maybe the reveal can justify its place.
Finally, we have Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. Marvel has a long history with the Evo tournament, and the game has been a mainstay of nearly every tournament since its inception. However, the series has been absent for years due to the lackluster performance of Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite and the live Marvel vs Capcom 2 tournament that had to be canceled due to Covid. The advent of Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, along with its $25,000 prize pool, has many retired fighting gamers eager to get back, which is always nice to see.
