Embark Studios, a Swedish team made up of ex-Battlefield and DICE developers from Battlefield, is ready to put its latest shooter into the hands of (more) players. finals“StarCraft”, which has been quietly setting off an upsurge, is about to start its closed beta.
Finals is a free team-based first-person shooter that takes place in a virtual game show where the goal is to manipulate the arena with destruction and gadgets to become the ultimate winner.
Last October, Embark held a very limited closed alpha test, and did not share footage of it because it was under a non-disclosure agreement.but start March 7
The developers have made several changes based on alpha feedback and are ready to welcome more players to the beta. Registration is open to anyone on the Steam page for the grand finale, just register your interest and if you are selected, you will be granted access.
The closed beta has two locations, a skyscraper in central Seoul and Old Monaco overlooking the French Riviera. When you don’t want to shoot everyone or destroy the environment, you’ll be able to try out weapons, gadgets, and get a general feel for the game in the driving range.
The closed beta has a casual mode and a ranked mode. There are progressions too, so expect your arsenal and gadgets to grow as you play. You’ll even have stylish new makeup at your disposal.
Another key area Embark was keen to test was the game’s complex network code, which supports server-side destruction and movement, meaning all players see and are affected by the same things.
Another major Embark project is of course the ARC Raiders, which many expect to release before the finals. Still, ARC Raiders appears to be on track for release this year, and it looks like another showcase for the studio’s talented team.
