An extremely ambitious and highly anticipated free remake in Skyrim delivers excellent news after several years of long-term development.
Recently, there have been persistent rumors about the official development of a remake or remaster of The Elder Scrolls 4, subtitled Oblivion, released on Unreal Engine 5 in 2006. In parallel, there is another project that brings the title up to date, this time unofficially in Skyrim and is showing promising signs of life. So fans can expect a lot from The Elder Scrolls 6 in the more or less near future.
Oblivion becomes more real than ever in Skyrim
While the official remake or remaster of The Elder Scrolls 4 could be unveiled during the upcoming Xbox Developer Direct event and announced for release this year, the other project we're interested in here is much more steeped in certainties. For years, volunteer developers have been working hard on a free remake of Oblivion on the Skyrim engine, codenamed Skyblivion. After a long, passionate effort, an announcement that fans were eagerly awaiting finally came: a confirmed release in 2025.
This comes to us again Developer update from the team behind this unofficial remake of The Elder Scrolls 4 in Skyrim. This video allows us to discover the enormous progress and work of the developers and the path that remains to be covered before release. We can see that Cyrodiil's fantastic open world is almost completely finished, as are the interiors, quests and 3D models. So overall, there are just a few final touches left on various aspects of this remake to be ready for release.
The enormous claim to offer a free rework of The Elder Scrolls 4 in Skyrim is, for reference, more or less on the same level as the excellent Fallout London. We definitely hope that the developers of Skyblivion experience the same success. Similarly, other fans are working on Skywind, the remake of the legendary The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind in Skyrim. This one seems less advanced, but we also wish them all the best with an equally ambitious and highly anticipated project.
