Dragon’s Dogma 2 can be a bit like real life at times – sometimes everyone has a plague and you never have enough money. Not surprisingly, people who don’t want to save money every time they try a new hairstyle are already looking for ways to get rich quick.

Oddly enough, a lot of the discussion surrounding DD2 since it came out seems to be related to finances in some way. I’m mostly talking about the outrage surrounding these controversial microtransactions, which is arguably a bit overblown, as a fair amount of the affected stuff can be found just by playing the game, and modders have been quick to step up to offer alternatives.

Now, however, some players have found a way to use the game’s pawn system, sort of like an investment scheme, and apparently it’s quite lucrative, as long as you don’t mind teaching some hapless assistants how to kill monsters like a wizard. Yeah, someone called Gerry from Riviera, DD2’s pawn sitter, to take over his job, and they didn’t need any mutations, unless you count Dragon Plague.

So, what are they doing? Well, one player with the amusing username Thick_Shady has outlined their method of amassing cash in the game’s Reddit subreddit in an attempt to get others to sign up for the game, which is definitely not a medieval fantasy pyramid scheme. The key is simple – set your pawn’s mission to kill a monster, such as an ogre or cyclops, and give it a bounty of 10,000 gold.

While this will cost you 10,000 gold, it means “multiple people can hire your pawn to get the reward without you having to pay multiple times.” Therefore, people can go to the Rift Stone, search and recruit some chess pieces with similar tasks and rewards, and then help them kill the large beast target. Then, simply put, as long as you repeat this plan, your profits will multiply.

“The more people who do this, the better it will be, making it easier to find a pawn with a 10k gold reward,” Thick_Shady added, “You just have to pay the 10k gold again after your pawn returns while resting at home or in a hotel , so be sure to camp whenever you need to.”

“Doing this, I made 200,000 gold coins in about 2 hours of running around killing people. [cyclopses] and ogres, not to mention the extra gold you can earn by selling monster drops,” is how they sum up their pitch. It looks like they’ve got a lot of investors already, too, with many sharing in the post about the future Witcher ID, a fellow player wrote: “I do this all the time. When the reward reaches 10k, people will hire. “

Of course, some people are a little unsure what to make of this, or if they’re keen on manipulating the game’s economy to benefit players rather than just making a living through regular adventures. Still, considering that getting a haircut in DD2 can sometimes set you back 10,000 gold, you can’t really blame people for craving a predictable source of income.

Regardless of how you feel about teaching some chess pieces how to go this route, you’ll be happy to know that Capcom recently outlined the updates and fixes that have been made to the game.
