Fans are already fighting back against potential plans for Hogwarts Legacy 2.

In 2023 alone, Hogwarts Legacy will be over 22 million Sold once. It was a huge financial success for the publisher Warner Bros. and it came among fans and critics very good.

Perfect conditions to increase the chance of a continuation of the role-playing game. In fact, there was confirmation in September 2024: Of course, a successor to Hogwarts Legacy would be one of the publisher's biggest priorities.

The fans are not only looking forward to it, but also skepticism because of Warner's earlier statements. A petition therefore wants to prevent Hogwarts Legacy 2 from becoming a live service game. And she will probably overcome her first hurdle soon.

Almost 10,000 signatures

The petition was started on Change.org as early as March 2024. Collecting signatures was initially rather slow. At the time of writing, the number of supporters is almost 9,500. However, in the last few hours hundreds of people signed and the petition is now finally approaching its first goalto collect 10,000 signatures.

Players are demanding that the successor to Hogwarts Legacy dispense with any live service elements. Among other things, microtransactions are mentioned, forced grind and multiplayer. However, the fans not only argue with their own wishes, but also warn that the sequel as a live service game will be a financial failure.

Whether the petition has a chance of being heard, given the millions of copies sold, remains questionable. In principle, it is of course quite possible that a sequel will fulfill fan wishes:

Where do the concerns come from?

The trigger for the start of the petition was a statement from the head of Warner Bros. Gaming that was shocking to many fans. At a company conference he stated, the future in mobile, free2play and service games to see. The risk of failure in large and expensive productions like Hogwarts Legacy is simply too great:

Instead of releasing a big console game, how do we develop a game about, say, Hogwarts Legacy, or Harry Potter, that is a live service where people can permanently live, work, build and play in this world?

The calculation is simple. A normal single-player game can only be sold once, whereas a live service, in the best case scenario, generates steady income for years.

Nevertheless, we can say that the gaming boss's considerations at the time were nothing more than that – considerations. Whether Hogwarts Legacy 2 will actually be a service game is not yet confirmed and anything but certain.

The reveal or even release of a successor to Hogwarts Legacy is probably still a few years away. After Warner delivered a rather disappointing Quidditch game for us, according to insiders, a Definitive Edition for Hogwarts Legacy is next in development. Among other things, this should expand the story and provide new side quests and outfits for your characters.
