Final Fantasy 14 director Naoki Yoshida has confirmed that the story of the next expansion is already underway.
Last year, Final Fantasy XIV finally wrapped up the story it had been building since its 2013 relaunch with the launch of the expansion Endwalker. The story has been developing for nearly a decade, with four expansion packs and many patches slowly telling the grand adventure set in Hydaelyn. But according to the NME interview, Yoshida has already started planning 7.0, the next expansion.
“The main storyline of the 6.X series has been completed and we have decided on its ending. Currently, scripting related work for several patches and work on the detailed plot is in progress. In fact, at my end, I am already deciding my The vision for 7.0,” Yoshida said in the interview.
Few MMOs truly tell the full story it’s trying to tell, and that’s the problem with World of Warcraft, but Yoshida and his colleagues actually accomplished the unimaginable in Final F antasy 14. The story isn’t quite over yet, as he notes that more 6.X patches are in the works, but it’s interesting that Yoshida is already thinking about what to do for the next arc in the world of Final Fantasy 14.
In addition to talking about the game’s narrative future, Yoshida also talked about the Island Sanctuary, a new and unique area that will allow fans to interact in a much easier way than the main game. “Everything is going well, but since this is something very different from what we’ve implemented before, and now that patch 6.1 has been released, I wanted to take a closer look by showing it in the field producer’s letter for patch 6.2.”
Yoshida also recently talked about final fantasy 16which is clearly in the “last stages of development”.
