If you’re a moogle lover, you’re in luck because the cute creatures barely make it in final fantasy 16.
Moogles have been featured in the Final Fantasy series over the years, though they were conspicuously absent in the most recent numbered entry, Final Fantasy 15. They’re also easily the best creatures in the entire series, because just looking at them can tell me you don’t love them. But according to Final Fantasy 16 producers, the moogles actually proved to be quite difficult on a technical level, almost leading to their elimination.

On the Square Enix Blog, a recent interview with some of the developers behind the RPG explored the reality of making a game (thanks Eurogamer). According to Yoshida, moogles are a real pain. “Fundamentally, the biggest challenge is probably the moogle,” Yoshida said. “The development team was worried that moogles would be too difficult to make and wouldn’t fit the feel of the world, but our assistant producer said, ‘I don’t care, just put them in the game!'”
According to art director Hiroshi Minagawa, the biggest problem was actually executing the show mode. “Performance mods changed the look of the polygons a little bit, and we had a hard time fighting moogle especially… ended up with less hair,” Minagawa said, apparently making Yoshida laugh. “It ended up looking a bit like a hedgehog! We were like: ‘Is this…is this a moogle? Hmm…’ Eventually, we ended up doing something specifically for the moogle.”
Thankfully, moogles are apparently already in the game, which means everything is right in the world.
During the PlayStation Showcase last week, we got another look at Final Fantasy XVI ahead of its release this month. Square Enix apparently plans to work on a PC port of the game once it launches, but there’s no word yet on when.
