Just when you thought it was safe to return to Midgar… final fantasy 7 remake part 2 – or final fantasy 7 rebirthas it’s now officially called – is headed to the PlayStation 5 in winter 2023.
In today’s dedicated Final Fantasy 7 25th Anniversary livestream, we learned that Cloud Strife’s journey will continue in an all-new game – from where the events of the first title left off.
In the new game, Cloud, Tifa, Barret, Aerith and Red XIII will venture into the wilds far from Midgar – where nearly all of the first games take place. So far, all the events in the trailer appear to be in line with what we’ve seen in the original game, but knowing how willing the creative team behind the title is to screw up the plot, we don’t want it to stay that way.
“Wait, what are you implying? I’m dead? What impostor am I?” Aerith says at one point in the trailer. Well.
As for the future of the series, we’ve also heard that there’s also a final name in the works for the Remake series, although at the time of writing, we don’t know what the game will be called (or, in fact, how far it is from the original) Game is different, it will deviate at the end of the respawn). During the livestream, Yoshinori Kitase confirmed that some members of the development team are already working on the mysterious third title.
During the event, we also learned that Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 is being remastered for PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Switch, with a Final Fantasy 7 Remake surprise coming later today on Steam published on. Now is a great time to be a Final Fantasy 7 fan, isn’t it? Let’s just hope the faitgue doesn’t show up when Game 3 of the series finally lands.
There’s no word yet on whether FF7 Rebirth will land on other consoles, or see a PC version.
