Only a few weeks ago, several old role-playing games, which were loved by fans, disappeared from the GOG shop: Ultima Underworld 1 and 2, Syndicate Plus and Syndicate Wars were taken from the sale at the request of the publisher EA. But now the games are suddenly back – and you can get them for free for a few weeks. What exactly happened?
EA is rowing back
The four titles are now available again at GOG, as announced on the shop page. Namely as free bundles that you can keep forever.

EA writes about the reason for the unexpected return:
“Syndicate and Ultima Underworld are back! It seems like after twenty years there is still a lot of love for these titles. So we are happy to confirm that they are now available again on GOG and we will for the foreseeable future To celebrate, we’re offering these games as free downloads for four weeks. “
In the comments on GOG, this message is received mostly positively, after all, the games are considered to be groundbreaking for the role-playing genre. Many fans were very disappointed that the titles should go off sale. You can read what was and still is so special about Ultima in our Plus Report:

But with all the praise for EA giving in, there is also one question that many are now asking:
What if I recently bought the games?
Many had quickly secured the games when it became known that they would only be available for a limited time. The old classics only cost a few dollars each, but still annoying if you got them for free a short time later.
There is no official statement on possible refunds, but there are some players – including colleagues from PCGamer – report that they can at least request a refund from GOG, even if they got it a long time ago. Usually you can return games in the shop up to 30 days after purchase. Even if you bought them a few days earlier, you can be lucky here at official support attempt.
Even more free games: Over the weekend you can play some titles for free on Steam, Epic and Co. again and sometimes keep them permanently. For example the great medieval adventure A Plague Tale: Innocence.
