The unexpected often happens: On the sidelines of the announcement of current business figures, Activision Blizzard has confirmed that there are currently two previously unannounced games within the Warcraft franchise in the works.
Activision Blizzard is currently making negative headlines above all, after all, the investigation into sexual harassment and discrimination within the company overshadows pretty much everything at the developer and publisher. So it’s no wonder that when the latest business figures are announced, people prefer to turn their attention back to other topics.
For the publication of the quarterly results, the publisher confirmed that Blizzard Entertainment is actually working on two new Warcraft games that were previously completely unannounced. But you shouldn’t lapse into too much joy now, because there is definitely a catch.
Neither project is a sequel to Warcraft III, nor is it a new MMORPG in the style of World of WarCraft. Neither title will be released for PC or the big consoles, but rather are planned for mobile platforms. The Diablo Immortal, which was recently postponed to 2022, should therefore most likely serve as a benchmark within the company.
At least you will be able to enjoy Warcraft on the go in the future, although further details are currently unclear. The only thing that is certain is that the two projects are in different stages of development, but release periods were not mentioned in all cases. To characterize the games, Activision Blizzard only stated that they wanted to offer both classic content and new gaming experiences within the franchise.
While Blizzard also reiterated that they have another Warcraft-related project in the works, this will most likely be the next WoW expansion expected within the next 18 months.
