Countless games appear on Steam every week, but rarely do they get such good reviews as Dredge, which was released on March 30th and has so far delighted almost all players. Currently coming about 400 reviews together, which are 97 percent positive
Fangfrischer Lovecraft-Horror
In Dredge we end up as a simple fisherman due to unfortunate circumstances in a sleepy coastal town. In the surrounding waters we go about our daily fishing routine, throw out nets and traps and bring rich catch ashore. By selling our catch we raise money to eventually afford better equipment for our sloop.
But if we drive out at night, it quickly becomes clear that something is wrong here. Because terrible dangers lurk in the depths, as the trailer shows:

Dredge: The Fisherman’s Adventure shows its seemingly idyllic world in the trailer
The main story, meanwhile, is advanced through conversations with important characters. Along the way, we’ll become involved in deals with shady characters, recover strange artifacts, and face the cosmic horror that awaits us. You can read what impression the first demo made on us in our preview.
What is Dredge praised for?
A look at the first reviews shows that the gameplay mechanics around fishing, as well as the story and atmosphere, are well received. So writes about Jadeah
Great game for the Steam deck. The somber mood fits the setting perfectly and although I only wanted to take a quick look, I couldn’t stop playing for an hour. Oppressive atmosphere and still totally relaxing. A game has to do that first.
And MaxNChachi humorously addresses the subtle horror of Dredge in his review:
You are just a fisherman. Nothing is wrong. The fish are perfectly normal. There are no terrors of the salty deep lurking beneath the waves. Certainly no strange and mysterious characters asking you to collect lost artifacts for an unknown purpose. Just you and your fishing boat and the things that watch you at night.
The Abu Jojo On the other hand, he particularly likes fishing and exploring, but he also praises crafting and upgrade systems:
I love crafting new fishing rods, upgrading my boat and exploring the sea. Exploration and progression system are fun, plus there’s a cool story.
Of course, most players probably haven’t beat Dredge when they write their review. In this respect, the ratings are not yet one hundred percent meaningful. But Dredge is off to a compelling and promising start on Steam!
